Subject: From JP13 to JP12
Hi Tom,

Will my adapter (Beacon adapter.pdf) work at all if I connect this to JP12? This is active when grounded, will have to change resistor values
I suppose to get it working and not loading the output to much.
Have not even tried to use JP13 as planned and JP12 is much easier to for me to connect to (Winford breakout).

Cheers
Bengt

Hi Bengt,

No that circuit wouldn't work.  That type of circuit requires the inputs to switch as much voltage as the output.  But a different circuit using NPN transistors with the emitters grounded could be turned on and off with the 3.3V outputs through a resistor.  This would be like an open-collector drive where your 24V lamps could then be connected from the collectors to +24V.

OK so NPN say 2N2222 with 680R from output on JP12 to base and a pulldown ~20K and load on collector to 24V. This will load on JP12 output at ~4mA.
Cheers
Bengt

Hi Bengt,

Exactly.  If the transistor has a current gain of 100 that would allow 400ma of collector current.  Not sure what your Beacon requires.  The JP12 outputs are good for 12ma so you could lower the base resistor to 220ohms.  Shouldn't need any 20K pull down as the outputs source and sink.

Uploaded 2 pictures in my folder, JP12 adapter......
Will try to isolationmill the board tomorrow. PCB fits directly on Winford BRK2x20.
Cheers
Bengt
